October 22, 2010 (Atlanta, GA) – The “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign announced today the collaboration with Atlanta Falcons linebacker Mike Peterson. Several breast cancer survivors will be guests of Mike Peterson and the Mike Peterson Foundation. Those guests will be chauffeured via a pink limousine to the Georgia Dome this Sunday. Before the game the survivors will enjoy a tailgate party hosted by Doug and Ryan Stewart former NFL players and Sports Radio 790 the zone on air personalities.

The NFL football home game features the Falcons against the Bengals October 24. This is one of many month long gestures by professional male athletes and celebrities. It’s just another way of recognizing the courageous fight by metro area breast cancer survivors.

“I am proud to support the Real Men Wear Pink Campaign,” Mike Peterson said, “Breast cancer is a fight that no woman should have to battle alone because cancer affects the entire family.”

Breast Cancer survivors not attending the game are invited to come out with their families to the “viewing” party of the game at The Embassy Suites Hotel in Buckhead from 1p-4p sponsored by the “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign.

The “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign is designed to encourage men to remind the women in their lives to get their annual mammogram This year men are also being reminded to be alert to any changes in how their breasts normally look and feel, and to discuss any changes with their health care provider.

The Mike Peterson Foundation was formed in 2004 to benefit under served youth and socioeconomically challenged families in his hometown of Alachua, FL and his NFL communities of Atlanta and Jacksonville. Peterson hopes to create a legacy by one day building a community center in the Alachua area just outside of Gainesville. Since its inception, the Mike Peterson Foundation has served more than 10,600 youth and families.

For immediate release

SEPTEMBER 28, 2010 (ATLANTA) – Atlanta Falcons’ veteran linebacker, Mike Peterson and wife Chantal Peterson helped to bring the dream alive for a much needed playground at Grove Park Elementary School, an inner-city school in the heart of Atlanta. On Tuesday, October 5 at 12pm, Mike Peterson will be on hand for the KaBoom! Playground dedication ceremony. This was made possible for the children and families of Grove Park Elementary School with the help of a generous donation from the Mike Peterson Foundation.

“As an active kid growing up in Florida, I remember going outside for recess and having fun on the playground. Every kid should have this same opportunity,” shares Peterson.

The Petersons have been active in the Atlanta community since signing with the Falcons in 2009. Giving back is as second nature as playing football to the Petersons. “We feel blessed that we’re able to help provide this opportunity to the children at Grove Park Elementary School,” states Peterson.

Many of the students attending Grove Park Elementary School come from challenged economic backgrounds. “This community is underserved with limited financial resources and would otherwise be unable to purchase a playground. A playground would help promote a healthy and active lifestyle amongst our students” states Mariama Tyler, Director of External Affairs for Atlanta Public Schools.

The Petersons are pleased to join other corporate sponsors including Home Depot in helping to fund the KaBOOM! Playground project for Grove Park Elementary School.

The Mike Peterson Foundation will partner with Grove Park for the school year launching a new reading/literacy program, “Top Dog Readers Club,” to recognize outstanding achievement and commitment to reading for students. Students will reap the benefits for years to come and the Petersons will continue to encourage kids to be active while encouraging education and fitness.
